Imagine an ad for Pepsi whose message was, "It's good if you mix it with Coke".

Imagine a world where a third of the market is looking for some other better option, and that's your pitch.

The Coke, everyone can see, isn't actually Coke anymore and hasn't been for a long time. It's some fuming combination of aspartame and drain cleaner.

But that's your pitch.

I think I think hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/113 is probably correct, that this is where it went wrong.

Hachyderm.iomekka okereke :verified: (@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io)"Today, I am announcing that as president, I will create a bipartisan council of advisors to give feedback on policy and inform my administration. Our democracy needs a healthy two-party system." Kamala Harris, on Oct 11th, 2024. This statement is not aimed at Black voters, or at her base of white, Asian, and Hispanic voters. It's aimed at undecideds and swing voters. This statement will reduce the number of Black men that want to vote for her. The idea is that it will gain swing voters. 1/N

@mhoye @owillis1977 was saying it from the very beginning. It worried me the whole time because it makes so much sense.

The truth is that it was very conscious and a HUGE collective of centrist consultants waylaid Harris and started putting constant pressure on her to do this. She was clearly given advice and the advice was to listen to them.

Her mistake was listening to those dipshits and I don't know how we could've gotten through to her, when so many people were saying it so damn loudly

@ironchamber

"she was waylaid by consultants" she is an adult, with developed political beliefs and understanding (she's the Vice President) and she made her own decision. That decision was in keeping with everything else that we know about her and her past history.

I, too, am disinterested in making excuses.

@richpuchalsky @mhoye @owillis1977

Listen, I'm not saying she's without fault,
I'm saying there's absolutely a concerted machine there and it didn't lose any power after election day. It's entrenched.

It's people like Carville, specific people with names, and they will keep doing it. He's got no self-awareness about what he did that I know of.

Is the topic we're talking about "why do we keep mixing coke & pepsi" or is it not? Because I'm saying this is one big reason why it keeps happening.

@ironchamber @richpuchalsky @mhoye

“We peasants would never criticize the king, and object only to the evil men who surround him and whisper poisonous advice into his ears…”

@HeavenlyPossum @richpuchalsky @mhoye Jeeze. This just feels hurtful, at this point.

I'm not defending Harris, she fucked up and it's a big catastrophe mostly from her leadership choices. But, she's lost her election bid and I'm guessing also most of her potential influence as a result.

Meanwhile, these other people suffer no consequence and keep getting queued up for advisory roles. They haven't delivered a presidency with this shit in decades and yet they escape ownership of it every time.

@ironchamber @mhoye @richpuchalsky

Sorry, I just love how consistent that framing is across centuries.
