TIL that Mattermost has described themselves, on their own website, as “Cool enough for Uber, Secure enough for the US Army” and “rated as a Cool Place To Work by Gartner”, and OMG could somebody go to Mattermost HQ and tell them that this isn’t stuff you put on your website, this is stuff you whisper to yourself alone in the darkness while you try to choose between whiskey and valium.

@drjwells I wonder how this fits into public records laws.

@mhoye Other reasons include stuff getting taught in the wrong order and weird priorities in terms of how much time is spent on various topics.

Here's two days on matrix operations. It makes a lot of what we'll cover later a lot easier, but I won't tell you how and we'll never speak of this again.

I love that there are so many of us thinking deeply, if weirdly, about how to 'reboot computing'.

We all have different ideas and sometimes those ideas conflict on the details, but there's a substantial amount of agreement about roughly what's wrong with the Unix model of computing we've inherited, *very roughly* what we'd like, and .... a pleasing amount of vagueness about the details because we haven't yet built it.

I miss Spartan Ops. I feel like it could have been turned into something interesting.

I never feel more disconnected from whatever passes for normal human society these days than when I’m listening to a radio in a car. Just staggeringly dystopic in the way that only bland routine can be.

Look, I'm not saying we shouldn't use accessible colour contrasts, but I am saying that it's noteworthy af that the only accessibility issue academics seem to give a shit about is a mild disability that predominantly affects white men.

Radio ads are incredibly confusing. Who are they for? Do they work? How does it feel for the people who have to interrupt what they’re saying to tell you who sponsored it, and recite their slogan like that’s totally normal?

Just saw those Peloton classes described as "like a rave, but for people who like rules and doing what they're told", which: damn.
