Man, Kernighan's Unix memoir is a gift that keeps on giving. You know why Unix commands are so relentlessly terse, like mv instead of move? It's because their keyboards were so crap they hurt to type on.

Unix question: how many ways are there to change directories in a shell? cd, pushd, popd... I think that’s it? Are there others?

@emma I'm not sure if I was supposed to giggle. But I giggled.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. I am thankful for your presence in my life.

My daughter has proposed the existence of the “were-alpaca”, which I’m not sure about from a strict creature-villainy perspective but I bet would make the most expensive pelts in history. Most of the time? Fine leather jacket. One night a month? Luxurious fur coat.

(Thanos puts one more crystal onto his glove) "...soon all cheese will be nacho cheese."

There is no such thing as "nacho cheese", but clearly any cheese put on a nacho _becomes_ nacho cheese, so at any given moment you can fundamentally change the global understanding of nacho cheese by putting any arbitrary cheese on any arbitrary nacho. Brie? Paneer? Limburger? Cottage? There are no rules here. I have given you a new semiotic superpower. In the scope of all things "nacho" and "cheese" you are unstoppable, go forth and rend this narrow tex-mex world from its foundations.

Did you know there's a word in English for a person who plays the tuba in corn fields to scare away snakes? They're called cornfieldtubasnakescaries

I'm writing this fellowship personal statement about activism, and it is weird as hell boasting about myself when Everything I do is background and meant to Not be eye catching. Like medics spend weeks ahead of time just planning and always staying out of the limelight. We are there outside the prison for medical help for 12 hour shifts. We set up hand washing stations at centers where the activists will be that have no sinks and soap. We do boring shit. It feels weird to boast about it

Dad: *nudging me* that should've been you

Me: Not now Dad

Dad: Not asking for a Developper to help, are they?

Me: Dad, there's a medical emergency happening right now

Dad: Go and see if “It's GNU/Linux, not Linux" helps

the deligitimization of derivative works as "fanfiction" is a result of the late-capitalistic institution of extremely long copyright terms. In this essay I will

@mhoye in 2559 we still won't have good enough Unicode support to replace (c) with an actual copyright sign; very dismal portrayal of the future

This is s screencap of the bootup sequence of the Master Chief's power armor in the most recent Halo trailer. I'll need to check this, but I'll bet you that the string in red there is a Windows activation code.
