Wow. Chinese spies did a successful supply chain attack, planting a malicious chip into a piece of electronics manufactured in China by a US company. They "reached almost 30 U.S. companies, including Amazon and Apple, by compromising America’s technology supply chain, according to extensive interviews with government and corporate sources"

@micahflee it seems unbelievable, but I am skeptical if the supply chain could have been compromised to that extent.

@harishpillay I'm still reading the article but it looks like the implant was just in circuit boards built by San Jose-based company Supermicro (and manufactured in China). Other companies buy their motherboards and other electronics for their own products

@micahflee i'd be curious about the chip that is in the tiny package. it will have leads out which the photo does not show (could be a hidden layer in the pcb).

@micahflee Scary stuff. I wonder if there will be a drive to start building tech in the US again (NSA must be pretty jealous right now!)
