Cybersecurity for the People: How to Keep Your Chats Truly Private With Signal
I made a video, and wrote a detailed article, about using Signal for end-to-end encryption as securely as possible.
@micahflee what about #riot (#matrix network). It has e2e encryption too and it has the advantage of federation
@micahflee very good article nevertheless!
@micahflee Thanks for compiling these lists. I send them to everyone, and although my friends are annoyed that I try to force them to use signal, they always feel vindicated when another news report comes out about governments and other covert agencies spying on their own people.
@micahflee Neat article. It'd probably be worth pointing out that a phone can get remotely exploited too and if that happens no amount of encryption (Signal) can protect you. If you are a high value target that should factor in your threat model, see Pegasus malware and the Trident 0day (at the time) exploit chain.
As dragnet surveillance becomes more difficult due to the proliferation of e2e, governments and other advanced threat actors will increasingly rely on compromising the endpoints.
