whenever I see an advert for another new MOBA-type game I just think "I am too old to learn a new type of vidyagame, why don't they make text adventures any more"

@mightygodking Would you count TWINE games as text adventure games?

@Stephen_Stone Twine "games" are interactive fiction, that's a totally different thing

@mightygodking this is generally how i feel about MMOs, and i’m okay with just sticking to single and online/couch co-ops

@Chance_second oh god MMOs, I play vidyagames because I hate random people, why would I want to hear them come up with "strategies"

@mightygodking I remember my turning point on it was when Little Big Planet had online rando co-op and there was no way to proceed because of crosschatter or just overall weirdness, which is odd for that level of game

@mightygodking @Chance_second I played enough WoW to know that it's great when you have a good team, but it's generally not worth the trouble to find or assemble one. I can't understand how guild leaders even exist, let alone raid leaders.

@Chance_second @mightygodking (also MOBAs are basically a tactical game version of the "footsie" strategy you see in high level fighting games, which may be optimal gameplay but is boring as hell to watch and mind numbing to play.)

@talestoenrage @mightygodking overwatch is a random match, isn’t it? like Destiny matching without a fireteam?

@Chance_second @mightygodking I think so, but I only played a little during a free weekend on console and decided it wasn't worth it at the lower speed. And I didn't have a gaming PC either.

@mightygodking there's not much money in it anymore, but there are still some truly excellent text adventures being produced!

2048: The Text Adventure

You are in a small room. There is a tile on the floor in the north west corner, marked with the number two in ancient hieroglyphics. If you move, the floor will tilt and tiles may move or fall from the ceiling.

>GO EAST

The "two" tile slides to the northeast corner. A new tile marked with a two falls from the crumbling ceiling and lands with a dusty thud just south of the middle of the room.
