i'm always baffled when new things launch and they don't have a fediverse link but instead still on birdsite and maybe instagram, it feels somehow antiquated

i guess there's still stuff going on over at x-com (enemy unknown) but i don't wanna check

@mntmn We are in 2024, we can't live with FOMO, there is always some information somewhere we can't be aware of.

@mntmn I refuse to go back to that hell hole. I already have TikTok on a separate dedicated device as I needed that off my personal device (I’m a content creator but maybe consume 20 minutes a day at most now).

I really only have mastodon, discord, Matrix, and YouTube on my personal phone.

@mntmn My understanding was that if a company wants to be on mastodon they need to have their own instance because the mastodon community is not very positive regarding commercial stuff on the free instances. That's why I don't have an account for Solder Party, hosting my own instance is too much work.

@arturo182 hmm, i'm having a 99% good time here though, peddling our warez

@arturo182 @mntmn I dunno I think it really depends on the company. If they are open and community-minded and respect their customers they seem to do fine on the fediverse, even when they do not run their own instance.

The fediverse generally gets hostile when commercial accounts behave as they did on x-twitter or Facebook...just spamming with ad-like posts and limited interaction.

@msh @mntmn That's how I've been using my company account on Twitter - posting updates when products are back in stock, when a new product is out, and posting about people making cool things using my products. So that makes me think I would not be welcome on fedi.

@arturo182 @mntmn I would have guessed that at least someone ran an instance for purely commercial content... Quite possibly where you would have to pay for an account

@mntmn Kediverse ate birdsite. (Would be the ideal slogan.)

@mntmn

I think it can also tell you a bit about the project's priorities.

@mntmn i feel 100% the same! like, wow, still on twitter after all the dumpster fires????

@mntmn I think the reason for this is that the Fediverse isn't a good marketing tool for traditional companies, unlike Instagram, or X, or Facebook even. There is no algorithm feed to hijack and get you go viral. There is no one to pay money to, to shove your stuff down people's throats.

It needs a lot of consistent work and good values, to stand here on good terms with a community that is mostly consist of very conscious consumers. It's hard.

@mntmn its kind of wild how many companies still dont care they are so active on the mainly nazi side now side

@mntmn I don't want do dampen your enthusiasm but I am both on Twitter and Fediverse, and unfortunately the latter is totally lackluster compared to Twitter.

@hansfbaier YMMV depending on what's important to you i guess

it's a quick-n-easy way to identify people of many sorts. "on twitter because they're oblivious," "on twitter because their paycheck depends on it," "on twitter because they are morally defective,"

uh

ok not that many

@mntmn totally agree I’ve privated my Instagram and my pinned post on Twitter points to my mastodon and other social media and a message I don’t plan on returning.

I only have a threads account to see about exporting the following I have there to potentially migrate them to mastodon when they have full federation. I plan to delete my Instagram after that and export all data to my Pixelfed I’ve been playing with.

I only keep TikTok as I have a huge following there
