oh right, my #vikingbiking gear!!
-polo x-67s because i only have one pair of shoes i bike in; thick wool hiking socks; knee-high waterproof gaiters
-wool thermal tights, work jeans
-wool thermal shirt, t-shirt, hoodie (sometimes a nice technical hoodie, but lately a shitty cotton one)
-down jacket, hard shell
-wool scarf, helmet, orange ski goggles
-glove liners, 3-finger mittens, bar mitts
stay cozy, #mastobikes
wow it's -4C out and i'm excited to ride home because it's *so warm*
winter. i put on fresh brake pads about two weeks ago, and i'm almost down to the metal already ;_;
i only planned to spend 20m on a tire swap, but it's a balmy 60F out before a long winter storm is due to settle in, so i took a few hours overhauling a bunch of stuff i've put off on colder days. back on my old knobblies, tuned brakes and replaced worn pads, adjusted headset, cleaned the chain, etc. gotta get ready for #vikingbiking!
a good read on pay gap, recently: http://carriegracie.com/news.html
i'm in a reflective mood, so here are two pieces of writing from the past year that i still stand by and feel good that i got them out:
https://spray.no-leverage.com/highballing.html about fear and rock climbing
https://spray.no-leverage.com/today-20170901.html about how i've felt existing in the current social/political environment (includes references to current events and stress responses)
they were both extremely raw pieces for me to write at the time.
Pondering starting #GetOnOurLawn for people to share ideas and requests for making the fediverse a nicer place for newbies to hang out in.
My first idea is:
Don't go into a stranger's mentions to trash anything, especially if it's unrelated to what they said in the post you're replying to. So like, if someone says "ooo Mastodon is so nice!" DO NOT reply like, "Twitter is a wanky trashfire, amirite?"
[dreams scrawled out in terminals; dogs sniffed.]
