I loved this joke this morning but I don't get it any more. Has anyone done one of those tests that produce a radar chart depicting what kind of sense of humor you have? Because now I want to graph mine from day to day and watch for changes, like in Prey.
Lots and lots of games are that inventive on, for example, a $20,000 budget. What if Microsoft dropped $20 million on those developers? Well, they'd fall on their fucking face because they have no experience running a AAA studio. You know what I mean though.
The audacity and creativity on the screen in Psychonauts 2 is truly astonishing. A marvel, a joy, a triumph.
It's weird to praise a game for having a lot of interesting art in it because being full of expensive art is just what AAA games *do*. It's well-made, it's inventive, but what makes it unique and audacious is just that multiple publishers spent $X0 million making it happen. Like it's Microsoft that deserves the adulation, not Double Fine.

@max Hah, I've had moments that *felt* pretty meat-circus -- the casino boss was pretty aggravating even with invincibility on. But you're right, when I really reflect on the lived experience of the meat circus, it just doesn't measure up.

I've been very impressed with the variety of things Psychonauts 2 shows you and asks you to do, and with the variety of *kinds* of things it shows you and asks you to do.
One thing I was less impressed by is that combat is absurdly punishing even on level one, but the punishment for missing a jump is almost non-existent. Like the platforming team had no confidence in their work and the combat team had way too much.
