Dying @ this anecdote from Andrew Thaler on birbsite:

“Six years ago today, I walked into the techiest tech-bro bar in San Fransisco, positioned myself obnoxiously into a group of Dudes Wearing Google Glass, and loudly said "Ok Google, Call Mom."

It was magical.

How were you radicalized against pervasive technology?”

This echoes @mako’s thoughts:

‘These decisions to embrace nonfree and private development tools undermine our credibility in advocating for software freedom and compromise our freedom, and that of our users, in ways that we should reject.’

dont ever learn about computers, their history, how to code etc, because then youll see the massive gap between what they are and what they could be, and it will haunt you for the rest of your days

Guix 1.0 is out at last! YEAH!
gnu.org/software/guix/blog/201
It even includes a "graphical" (read, curses-like) installer now! (The oldschool DIY route is still available if you like that though!) Lots of other stuff too!

Congrats Guix team!

Warning: If you don't schedule time for maintenance, your equipment will schedule it for you.

FSF and GNU should conceptualize a comprehensive concept of what a free computing environment should be, from the hardware, to software and networking environment.

Secure. Private. Encrypted. Anonymous. Decentralized. Distributed. Those are keywords for the new internet that will replace the current one.

Projects like i2p and GNUnet are actually the most important program in these days of privacy intrusion and massive surveillance. Using Linux, Firefox, and what have you is mere palliative, internet is broken fundamentally.

For some reason Mastodon UI feels claustrophobic

LISP programs are actually foreign residents to current OSes. I wanted a LISP OS simply to have LISP programs residing in their own proper home.

Also, no nextcloud in standard stable repo?

It turns out that the relative 'stability' i.e. slowness of updates of MX Linux doesn't really suit me. Rolling release is something more suitable it seems. Youtube-dl breaks because youtube change its website, and I can't wait for updates.

@monad: is customisable hyperspace only available to instance admins, and not to users???
