Wow, this @sovtechfund fellowship looks great - if you live in Germany and are a maintainer of a widely used yet poorly funded open source project, they basically pay you to maintain it for a whole year at something pretty close to market rates, with the perks of being an employee like paid holidays and all the rest.

@mrchrisadams @sovtechfund it looks really fantastic. We need more like this, to ensure OSS doesn't wither now that ZIRP's disappearance is killing off startups and employers are laying off "non essential" staff...

Although it's not exactly the market rate. A maintainer of an important open source software, should IMO be given a senior sw engineer salary and the average these days is at least at 80-90k euro. Germany’s public sector wage agreement just hasn't caught up with the new reality.
