It is also surprising that a portion of the problem is the inability to accept (algorithmically) simple solutions. Adding a silly rhetorical question to most forms eliminates like 99.9% of bots. Somebody posted this overview recently: kevv.net/you-probably-dont-nee

@KnowPresent @emanuele @n8 I wish the government ran a captcha service and we could be digitizing records, stuff for library of Congress, etc. The results would actually be a public good.
