The Great Depression, Great Recession, Irish Potato Famine, and Atlantic slave trade should teach us that capitalism can screw up on a trans-continental scale.
The French Revolution, Stalin's purges, Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution should also teach us that having a leftist ideology is not a defense against failing on the same scale.
Somewhere in the space between these failures is room for success.
@natecull It seems to me that it is more useful to analyze success under both systems; capitalist success still requires a great deal of poverty while Leftism does not.
@tindall Yes, that's why I remain mostly Leftist in my politics. The 'capitalism' I grew up under in the 1970s in New Zealand was greatly softened by mixed state socialist policies, and today it more 'pure' and more ferocious and people are literally homeless because of this shift. (A small 1950s 3-bedroom house costs a million dollars in Auckland, I believe).
@natecull get into anarchism mate!! anti-authoritarian however it manifests ✊
