Alright #BSD fans, for a business management person like me who has been running (and contributing to) GNOME on Linux for 20 years, but knows next to nothing about BSD other than "It seems like even more of a niche than Linux, sounds like Asian-Dad-level Hard Mode™…", should I attend #BSDCan out of the blue? Is it a trap?
@nekohayo I attended all BSDCan Ottawa events for the past 3 years and i can say its great fun. You won't regret it thats for sure
@nekohayo by all means: Attend even as a non-user.
If you have to start somewhere: #BSDCan is the best place to do it.
You'll be surrounded by #BSD users, devels, admins, and just BSD people for 2 whole days (or 4 if you want to attend to any of the tutorials) but most important than anything else, if you want to dip your toes into the BSD world: don't miss this opportunity. Most of us just don't have it.
... and buy as many @mwl books as you can. All you need to know is in there!
Have fun!
@nekohayo @samebchase a poll for you, sir
@nekohayo it’s a trap! I attended, gave a talk, became a zealot, and now spend my time hacking on FreeBSD and Elixir for a living, and still going to BSD flavoured conferences.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, BEST TRAP EVER.
