My girlfriend just said that she doesn't want to see the news today as there's too many negative and horrible things happening and she's really not up to dealing with that right now.
She asked if we could see the next episode of the HBO series we have started watching a few days ago. It's about an ancient demon violently killing and eating children.
The world we live in, people...
IRL we know that there's evil that exists without any reason or explanation. Every predator out there is evil according to our general moral standards: it must be to survive. Is there any fiction book or a movie focused on how evil rises and flourishes without treating me like a four year old that must be comforted with the existence of superheroes saving the day? No anime/manga please.
Our storytelling as a species came to the point where for every evil entity we expect a counterweight: a good guy of some sort. For a bad, vicious criminal there must be a lawful cop chasing them. Okay, maybe the cop is troubled in some way, not crystal clear, made mistakes in the past, but at the core is someone you'd call a good person. We've got the devil and the God. If there's an abusive parent, we tend to think that there's a great one out there. Not that the abused kid cares, but whatever
