Hi everyone, I've moved to nitro.horse/@andreas (verifiable on keybase.io/513)! πŸ™οΈπŸŒ‰πŸ‘

Recently learned about @mastohost (masto.host) thanks to @aral (via mastodon.ar.al/@aral/100588387) and took the jump. Ridiculously smooth experience for around $6.50/month and worth researching if you're on the fence about setting up your own instance to strengthen the πŸ‘ˆ

I'm locking this account so you can follow me at my new home: nitro.horse/users/andreas/remo

this is what happens you choose pragmatism and practicality over morality

One of the most frequent questions we get is: Why doesn't Tusky support push notifications?

Because pushing to devices would require us to use proprietary Google libraries and to run a relay server. But we want Tusky to be pure FOSS (free and open-source software) and don't want to send any data to Google so we decided not to implement push notifications at this time. We are researching other possibilities to make notifications faster though.

Here's the thing. Multiple folks asked me about local instance posting, so I switched my instance to a build that has it and there has been no downside.

People still post to the federated timeline, but they can post to the local timeline as well. It gives people, say it with me, _options_, which is why we came here, right?

I find it ironic the the creator of Masto pushed freedom of use and safety, but wants to limit the experience to what he thinks it should be.

Sound familiar?

New here? Remember that Twitter is optimized to make you into passive consumers, by en(r/g)aging you with content that you don't choose yourself.

Here, that doesn't happen. But it also means you're responsible to find people to follow.

It will take some work.

If you're willing to put that in, you'll find a wide variety of friendly people that will be happy to have meaningful conversions and laugh and cry together with you.

Start by searching and looking at who other people follow.

πŸ‘‹ anyone wanting to help test (yet another) mastodon app for ios, send me over a quick DM.

will be sending out the first beta builds by the end of tomorrow (long weekend here πŸ˜„)

it’s shaping up to be a really nice app

folks, the only "trend" here on mastodon is loving and respecting your fellow posters

Working on Tusk, a Mastodon client for iOS. Want to beta test? Just @ me 😁.

hey so there are actually migration tools now, thanks to my good friend @codl https://migrannounce.tools.codl.fr/

also, @zac has a downloadable alternative as well!

finally, the fediverse can be truly called federated coz people can move account whenever they need

(imo it wasnt really federated until now)

A number of people have asked about alternatives to #Kindle #eReaders lately.

Personally I can recommend Kobo, they're nice devices and you can sideload popular DRM-free formats like ePub etc.

More about them:

Where to buy them:

@arcalinea@mastwodon.social Building things out organically, fllowing good people, then branching to whom they interact w/ tends to be good.

You've already got @aral , who's an excellent hub. Others:

@laura @indie @joeyh @maradydd @natecull @eliotberriot @stefanieschulte @aparrish

Not all presently active.

If you use Debian: you're got getting the recent Intel CPU bugfixes because Intel updated the firmware package's license to state that it's not redistributable.

If use Linux other than Debian and have the bugfixes: ask your maintainers why they're distributing software they're not legally allowed to.

And in any case: next time you purchase a CPU, evaluate whether AMD might be a better choice than Intel.

@arcalinea
I found out that following the owners of mastodon instances can be pretty interesting.

Still looking for suggestions of good follows though!

Discovery is hard here.

Some pachyderms I made for @Tusky :3
