There was this web developer trend during the holiday season where home pages would have snowfall when users visited their sites. Sadly, the trend passed away, but you can still snow on your Linux or freebsd desktop if you want for fun cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-unix-

@nixCraft

xsnow's fancier than it used to be. Your post got me to install it again, and it has a control panel now

@nixCraft One of the first programs I wrote in uni back in the late 70s on the PDP 11/70 was to randomly fill the 25x80 VT-100 screen with asterisk snow. My code today is a wee bit more sophisticated, but brings me no more joy than that modest effort did. Thank you for taking me back to those days.

@nixCraft
Hey, check out fedikarte.de (fedimap) - they have lovely snowfla%es on their site :)

Besides, you can enter the approximate place where you live - if you want to - and listen to some CC Christmas songs while you're there :)

@nixCraft Nextcloud has this nice snow mode (which I keep ON year long).

@nixCraft the DnD-Beyond app also still has this. The site unfortunately not.

@nixCraft
I'm fairly sure wordpress.com sites have snowfall auto enabled over Xmas or certainly used to, horrible practice that would send the CPU into overdrive for that window/tab and no obvious notification or site visitor control to disable it

@nixCraft what about those of us south of the equator?
