Also, I want to clear something up about silencing an instance. When instance A silences instance B, that doesn't stop all content from instance B from appearing on instance A, and it doesn't get rid of existing follow relationships or prevent new ones. Here's what it does do:
Users on instance B may not send communication to users on instance A without those users' active consent.
That's it. Users on B aren't cut off from users on A; they just need consent to communicate. That's all.
@noelle how DARE you require consent?! What do you think Mastodon is, a place to foster civil communication?
Oh, wait... that's what it's supposed to be.
Carry on.
@noelle i think often people ... don't have any clue what silence / block / mute all means when they're upset about it?
@tcql It's the first rule of the internet: in the absence of information, assume whatever it would take to drive you into a blinding rage.
Yeah, I'll send a carrier pigeon to fetch your "consent" since I ran out of crows. Jesus Christ. @noelle
@noelle How does a user boosting a toot from user B work in this scenario? Is it treated as user A content and sent around to users not following user B or is it only boosted to users who follow both A and B?
@duck57 I genuinely don't know!

If you think consent is a bad thing... geez, I don't know what to tell you, but you're not getting in my bedroom.
