An oldie but a goodie: The Case of the 500-Mile Email:
"We're having a problem sending email out of the department."
"What's the problem?" I asked.
"We can't send mail more than 500 miles," the chairman explained.
I choked on my latte. "Come again?"
"We can't send mail farther than 500 miles from here," he repeated. "A little bit more, actually. Call it 520 miles. But no farther."
Used my recovery day to do a little geek tinkering, and now my calendar and contact list are being served up to my phone via nextcloud rather than Google.
I like to post about this stuff not just because it interests me, but I feel like people need to hear that these sorts of privacy enhancing shenanigans are possible for less technical users.
I'm not an IT person. At best I'm an enthusiast that can read documentation. I got it done, maybe you can too.
There are a lot of problems with Twitter, obvious ones, but the fact that Dril still isn't verified is a fucking travesty.
"I'm more of a security nihilist, come to think of it."
I honestly forgot to log in here for ages. The fun of being ill for centuries, I suppose.
I am pretty much trillions of poorly specified elsifs with horrible code coverage and I still manage to do a thing once in a while so go easy on your own code friends
The 2017 Mastodon Mini-Census is here!

Please boost this so we can get as many responses as possible
Bootstrap - for when 37 divs to display a sentence just isn't enough.

The downside of using #Splunk all day every day at work: I now have a far larger desire to have a decent logging interface for my Mac at home. The console isn't bad, per se, I've just grown used to properly querying a metaphorical database.
It's a hard life, the life I lead. :single tear:
Have you ever actually *wanted* a gatekeeper for some disability or identity or similar, just so that you can finally feel secure in it?
I'm reading up on [some new neuroatypicality] that i might have-or-be, and I constantly worry that I'm not *enough*. Having a... maybe not a gatekeeper, but a border collie? This would be useful to me.
hey you know what sucks

This really should have occurred to me before, but, yesterday I realized that one side effect of the internet is it's increased "bystander effect" a thousandfold.
I want more #actuallyADHD webfriends

so I figured it out
Mastodon isn't "Twitter but X and Y and Z be more chars"
Twitter is "Microblogging, just like Mastodon, but mostly political and corporate and fewer characters"
the point needs making that "microblogging" isn't Twitter, like "email" isn't Gmail
I found this, but it's clunky and I'm spoiled, as mentioned.
