A term ridiculing the first PM of India is trending in India on his birthday on Twitter. Says everything about what Twitter has become.

Who are the startup people to follow on Mastodon?

If there is one story you have to read today, let this be it. How negligence and apathy for human life has killed one more person.
Absolutely heartbreaking story of Arunkumar, the manual scavenging worker who was killed while cleaning a septic tank in Express Avenue Mall. His brother Ranjithkumar narrates what happened.

My dream for Mastodon is for it to be a viable choice as a publishing platform for any creator. In other words, for people to not feel like they're locked in to Twitter or Instagram if they want to be professionally successful.

Hello Academic Tooters (), as promised, this is my first thread for desi academics (thought not limited to) who want to connect with each other in this new space, and create a virtual support system. Please introduce yourself under here with your name, field, area of research, geographical location (optional). Once we have the thread going, I'll create a list.

I run a free newsletter called Caferati Listings, which shares writing jobs, assignments, calls for entries and submissions and the like; basically, opportunities for writers. It has just over 1600 subscribers.
After a good run, I kind of stopped sending it for five years, but restarted it earlier this year. You can see the archives at groups.google.com/group/Cafera
If you have opportunities for writers you'd like to share, tell me.

(Boosts much appreciated. Thank you.)

I'm a computer programmer, community organiser and digital rights activist based in Bangalore, India.

Growing up as a lonely, bullied kid in the 90s, I found solace in books, computers, and later, the online world. In my quest to find belonging, never quite fulfilled, I've been involved with various communities over the year. A biography in toots:

If larger country oppresses a smaller country,I’ll stand with smaller country

If smaller country has Majoritarian Religion which oppresses minority religions,I’ll stand with Minority religion

If minority religion has caste & one caste oppresses another caste,I’ll stand with caste being oppressed

In oppressed caste if an employer oppresses his employee,I’ll stand with employee

If employee goes Home & oppresses his wife,I’ll stand with that woman

Overall oppression is my enemy

When we did direct sales @medianama , we always pitched brand affinity (as a vertical with a unique target audience set), trying to distinguish ourselves from commodity advertising that was/is Google. Unfortunately, math men/women have taken over and their only method of comparison tends to be commodity metrics.

Why I heart Mastodon.social: Our moderator has just informed us that he is aware that the Ayodhya verdict is expected today and that Islamophobia will not be tolerated.

An “anti-establishment” tweet, a blocked account, a trending hashtag — the perfect recipe for a movement — that of Indians leaving Twitter for Mastodon.

I Toot, You Tweet.

@BhavanaVarun
Unlike previous exodus, the reason behind it will repeat as the centralized platforms will hurt #freespeech again. Also many people are realizing their voice aren't heard as they don't provide a #democratic system. Wish this movement will have after waves that can bring more to #mastodon, so that the peer pull won't be an issue for migration.

Hi folks. Sending out my first toot. Feels weird but whatever it takes to show Twitter its place.

I hope people similarly leave Facebook and Instagram and join open-source alternatives. All corporate-owned social media platforms need to die.

5. One more idea: I think instead of WhatsApp groups, do you think Mastodon instances make sense? Make it private to the group.

When the left is right and the right is wrong I don't mind being left. If the right thinks they are right as they have the might, well, then I will fight for the left with whatever strength left in me.

I heard Mastodon is becoming popular in India now, that is great news. Welcome everyone

3.I am sad I am not young enough to be in college & that I am not teaching. If I was,I would be setting up Mastodon instances for every college. College kids would be admins.
4. Influencers would have their own instance. They get to decide the ad rates with no cut to platforms.
5. Media houses would have their own instances. After all they manage their own website and wordpress etc. This will be another thing in their stack.
You get the gist. This has the potential to disrupt if done right.
