Unpopular opinion: Statistically, covid isn't that big of a deal, at least when compared with similar things like the flu. Closing down an entire society for it has nothing to do with protecting the public and everything to do with controlling us (US). Shut down travel for it, but not for the 80k deaths from the flu last year, nor the 35k deaths from car accidents. Death is death. I'd be all for it if I was shown how covid is exponentially worse than the flu.
