" This is a deeply dark time, in which the structures we have built to sustain ourselves are being used against us — all of us — in systematic and automated ways. It is hard to keep faith with the network when it produces horrors such as these. "
@odinsdream More and more I just feel like "everything on the Internet will be paid for by AD REVENUE" was a terrible idea and we as a society need to change course away from it.
@anthracite yes. this is *clearly* bad, even when it "works" as intended.
@anthracite & the thing that drives me nuts about paying for internet infrastructure is that transferring bits *doesnt really cost much* as compared to like, any other human endeavour, and yet we've all just, been ok with a whole fucked up notion about that base assumption, and as such are paying for dozens of things on top of it and I just *breathes...breathes*...
...*breathes*....
@odinsdream (rant about capitalism and the need to extract as much value as possible from every goddamn thing in the world, probably with a segue into the basic income rant, goes here)
@anthracite yes exactly.
@anthracite it's like, literally maybe the most "marked up" thing sold, per unit? And it's COMPLETELY decoupled from any human work input per unit beyond infrastructure setup costs?
@odinsdream yes exactly
its just another corner of the crap that is the monetized social whoopty doo
