I've gotten some questions: does it really make sense to plan to build a distributed game system as part of the fediverse? Will that actually pay off or is it just one big gamble?
I think:
- Having things be fun for players/users may make them more likely to join. People want to build things together. May help alleviate the "join a federated social network to talk about federated social networks" problem
- Having things be fun for me is good too :)
@cwebber I like the idea of a federated game but please consider that gamification is not a good thing per se. Trying to increase the engagement of a platform by attaching some candies is something you should look at with caution. In my opinion it leads to bad outcomes because it blends different purposes and therefore offuscates retroaction processes.
It's just a prospective. :-)
@cwebber I was mainly worried about the latter. It's nice that you already put some thoughts. 👍
Is this OSS already?
@olistik It's not ready yet. Stay tuned.
