I adore the GPL. I think it's the best thing going for software freedom.
I admire RMS's work in promoting free software and his ascetic nature as an example of software freedom.
I abhor his continued and flagrant redefining of what consent and sexual assault are.
If only there were a way to get RMS to reject the non-GPLed parts of his personality the way he does on the computer.
Open source is often praised for producing versatile software, but here's something I haven't seen mentioned ANYWHERE:
Open source is the most accessible source of education for real world software engineering. It provides easy access to code that gets shipped to production and solves real world problems.
Without open source, learning how kernels or web browsers actually work would require a degree, a fat resume, good luck in the job market, and also whatever else corporations decide.
