The @GIMP have just released 2.10 to the world! Six years of hard work and improvements are all wrapped up and now available! Congratulations to the GIMP team for all of their hard work and dedication to bring us such a great project!

@hinterwaeldler @usul @GIMP There has been a single window mode for quite some time, actually...
@GIMP That should read "The GIMP _team_ have just..."
@hinterwaeldler @GIMP Well, as a user it probably isn't important other than to know that you get all kinds of new filters (via GEGL) that you may not have had before, and that some of your old filters are now using GEGL.
tl;dr: Business as usual with new filters. ya!
@patdavid This release looks simply amazing! Thanks to all involved!
@GIMP @patdavid @isagalaev this is often the case with many software (proprietary also). You should be able to continue working as before without too much of a heartache! ;)
@aldonogueira @GIMP The problem is, there's no easy sharing URL for linking to a page using Mastodon... :( I've looked at this problem before and am still not 100% how best to approach it.
@patdavid @GIMP Hey @renatolond can you help us, please? What is the best way to put a link to Gimp's Mastodon account in their website?
@aldonogueira @GIMP @renatolond Ah, just adding a link the account shouldn't be hard, it's literally: https://mastodon.at/@GIMP
The hard thing is social sharing links like the FB, Twitter, G+ links at the bottom of posts.
@patdavid @aldonogueira @GIMP you can try https://gitlab.com/distributopia/share-connect-support for sharing links, they have it for some softwares :)
@patdavid nice, but when will they start to move to GTK 3? 😇
@patdavid I actually knew that, but it's a bit of a shame that the one of the most prominent GTK+ apps is still using GTK+2.
What's even more of a shame is that Gnome needs to be rewritten in GTK+4 before they can tackle significant issues. Currently the whole session is a single CPU thread, and it takes down everything with it if the thread crashes in Wayland.

Bugger!
From https://www.gimp.org/release-notes/gimp-2.10.html -
"As usual, we will have Windows installers and macOS packages readily available. "
From https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ -
"There is no Windows installer yet, sorry. Please check back later. "

I've done a clean install of v2.10 (uninstalled v2.8 and the #GIMP extensions pack. installed 2.10 then re-installed the extensions pack - got a warning it was incompatible, but did I want to try anyway - it installed, but on starting GIMP, I get a couple of dozen warning dialogues pop up, then when it does start, virtually none of the extensions have installed.
Would it work if I installed 2.10 over the top of 2.8 with the pack installed, or do the extensions need updating?
@mancavgeek The extensions likely need updating. I would start by listing ones you find essential from the pack, and approaching their authors to see if they can update things for you (or check if there might be good alternatives available).
@patdavid Cheers - that was pretty much what I was thinking.
I'm probably going to reinstall 2.8 and the extensions pack, and run 2.8 and 2.10 side by side - I only really use them for this project, the only one that gets any major use on the other project is Save For Web, and I think I can play around with settings to replicate that - hopefully in a couple of weeks there will be some plugins come along.
@patdavid @GIMP Jeez, 2018 will really come as one of the most historic years for libre graphics software. Krita 4.0, Godot 3.0, Blender 2.8 (coming this year), Kdenlive refactored version (coming soon), and now Gimp 2.10, all super major releases ! I've never seen such a synchronized leap ! Are all the planets in the solar system aligned or what's going on ?
@ChameleonScales @GIMP @patdavid Maybe next year we'll see a major native support for A gaming titles.
@ChameleonScales
2018 has been amazing for Free Software. There were some really big donations from Pineapple Fund and Status.im, Microsoft started selling Linux devices and Chrome OS is getting native Linux support. Ubuntu 18.04 looks like it's going to be great release as well.
@GIMP @patdavid
@patdavid @GIMP did they make the UI usable ?
