Did some exploring of the Mastodon API last night. Made a very lightweight page to embed a single toot, no server-side code involved. #mastodon #fediverse #webdev : https://patrickcurry.com/socials/mastodon/embed/#url=https://mastodon.social/@patrickmcurry/108195817029536656
Thank you for the votes, y'all! Going to be a heck of an article/essay to write. Likely going to split it into a few parts.
GamesIndustry.biz is a long-running respected news site about the video game industry. It was also one of the first major news sites to open an official account on the Fediverse. You can follow at:
Also recommended is their editor Brendan Sinclair, who personally brought the site here:

Of course if Arkane wants to make Dishonored 3, I won’t complain! ☠️🤢⚔️🧪🩸
My kid and I did some game brainstorming. We invented a rogue mage who’s turned assassin. Their name is “X” — and they use poisons, daggers, teleportation and crafting to get the job done. They operate in the Baroque period, retreating to a secret lair between missions. “Baroquen Promises” coming soon!
Would you be interested in attending a virtual town hall meeting to voice your feedback/opinions to help shape our project?
Boosts appreciated! #pixelfed
I don't see a problem in using more than one social network to communicate and to fulfill different needs. Life doesn't have to be "either" "or".
I see a lot of discussions of people trying to reaffirm each other that they hate the same things.
Hate isn't productive. Life isn't just a set of booleans.
Know of a good site for video game jobs in Austin, Texas, or remote? Let me know and I'll add it to my list: https://patrickcurry.com/austin/#jobs
We have now collectively gained 112,413 monthly active users in the last few days, and 149,720 compared to the end of March. That's a 62% increase. Total now at 384K MAU across Mastodon.
Here's the expansion of the idea to its logical conclusion: a simple HTML template you can use as an "article" view of a thread. #mastodon #fediverse #webdev : https://patrickcurry.com/socials/mastodon/article/?article=108195817029536656
A sincere tip for longtime fediverse people who would like their friends to stick around here longer than a week:
If you're on Mastodon or Hometown, you can click the "bell" icon in the profile of someone you follow. This will make it so that every time they post, it will appear in your notifications like an "@". I am enabling this temporarily for friends so that I remember to interact with them. This is important for making this place feel more lively and helps people stick around!
A few years ago I made this flow chart of which Mastodon posts end up in which timelines!
So, you can see how each instance will have a different local timeline, and even a slightly different federated timeline - and you can see why the federated timeline moves so much faster than the local one, too.
This is why it's important to boost good posts and use hashtags - the fediverse is fragmented and harder to search by nature.
