How did airport-exit-control not stop this guy but stopped no-criminal-charges-pending Shah Faesal from Kashmir going on a scheduled overseas trip?

It's fascinating that the issue of Firoz Khan's appointment as Sanskrit professor at BHU is the one cause for which the "centre-leaning" Sanghis have decided to protest bigotry instead of throwing their weight behind it, as is the norm. Has some memo gone out that this is the one opportunity for them to show off their 'balance'?

@vinayaravind Brahmins are trying to popularise Sanskrit for some time and also furthering the narrative that Sanskrit was never a Brahmin-only language. This incident acts as a spoilsport in that narrative.

One striking characteristic of Indiranagar's hipster cafes is the sambar rice cart on the road outside, where the staff go for their own lunch. Some bother to take off their uniform before stepping out. Others don't care.

@peeleraja this teacher reminds me of my english teacher in college, who would never let go of the fact that some of us do not believe in a 'god'!

And yes, to this day.. she is much loved by most of her students.

This woman's behavior strikes me as criminal cruelty today. She belongs in jail. God knows how many students she subjected to her evil bigotry.

There are rumors that the lone Muslim kid in our school left after being subjected to her taunts in class.

The second person in question plaed the role of the kind elderly grandma. Would sidle up to me and ask in excruciating detail how my dad died (I was eight when he died and 10-11 when subjected to her). She would ask me in detail if my mother cried and I cried.

Finally she would say stuff like - "why don't you believe in god? Do you want him to do more such stuff?"

I was 11. Would be in tears. Then in fron of entire class "Do not cry - you are the man of the house now that your dad is gone!"

The first teacher (Bengali hater) taught English. We had a Tagore story in class 10th. In school we stood up when asked a question.

She asked me the right pronunciation of the names of one of the characters. After I said it, her reply was, "you Bengalis think too much of yourselves and your unique pronunciations. I will pronounce it as I wish - <butchered shitty pronunciation>."

Then egged on the class to laugh at me.

Today it seems silly and petty but there were many such instances

I am lucky that since college at least, my teachers never taunted or humiliated students in class. Yes, I have been hauled up in class, but not in a petty fashion.

Can't say that about my school teachers, who openly did the kind of crap that Fathima hinted at in her suicide note. One teacher kept telling me how Bengalis are assholes publicly. Another teacher would regularly remind me that I had lost my dad (class 5 onwards ffs) and my atheism would do me more harm. Etc etc. Hate them

Days after Fathima Latheef, a first-year student of IIT-Madras, committed suicide in the hostel room.

Fatima's parents have alleged that humiliation and religious discrimination by some of her faculty members had forced their young daughter to take the extreme step.

A native of Kollam in Kerala, 19-years-old Fathima Latheef was an integrated MSc first-year student in the institute’s Humanities and Social Sciences Department.
