I feel like I've stumbled upon a dark, forbidden secret...

Warning: If you don't schedule time for maintenance, your equipment will schedule it for you.

People don't want a server they want an appliance. People don't want an app or a website, they want an appliance.

People don't want to own a washing machine, they want to be able to wash their clothes.

The trick here is that it's not just about washing clothes, it's having access to something familiar to them that they know can wash their clothes.

This is essentially the foundation of trust via branding laid out in the literal book "propaganda" by Edward Bernay.

Last day working from home. I'm not sure I'll be able to handle going back to wearing pants, like, every day again.

There is something comforting about posting here. I'm (very) new to the platform, and I'm learning by trial and terror, but it's all good. I call it screaming into the void when I post on FB. I haven't yet managed to bring any of my friends over with me, or make any new ones here, but that makes just more like journaling? Maybe someone will read what I write at some point, or maybe I really am just whispering to the wind here, but I find that removes the tension, it's .... better here.

So yeah, the pain gets worse a week or two after surgery. Oh, and the cherry on this sundae is that I, in my infinite wisdom, decided to have two surgeries about a week apart, on my belly and my toes, so as to limit my down time. That part seems to be working out as it should, but it's acting more like a gear reduction on the recovery than an acceleration. Half the time, but twice the suck! Still a good idea, but maybe not as easy as it looked like it would be at first. Live and learn.

Fun fact! When they cut a bunch of holes in your abdominal wall to let the giant spider-robot get at your squishy bits, they inevitably damnage some nerves on the way through. After the surgery, they give you pain meds, but you feel like a real tough guy for the first week or two because it doesn't hurt. Then the nerves around the wounds start regrow and reconnect faster than the wound heals, so that gives them something to talk about with their friends, the pain centers of your brain!

This little guy wasn't doing so well on the kitchen counter, so I've moved him to a spot in the yard. Good luck, little mystery plant dude! I hope the weather is better at taking care of you than I was.

:starwall: 🎉 IT'S MY BIRTHDAY CAN I GET SOME BOOSTS??? 🎉 :starwall:
IM 22 NOW!

Just called my son and talked to him for about an hour out of the blue. We haven't done that in years, for no particular reason. It felt really good to reconnect like that. I think this will need to become a habit. Feel stupid for not doing that in so long.

The bottom line here is that fixing these problems now will cost less than not fixing them. Sure, it'll be expensive. But that's just because we've waited so long to get started. And as expensive as it will be to start working on this now, it's still less expensive than continuing to actively make it worse just so billionaires can get even richer. It's kinda like going to the dentist- Sure it sucks, but it sucks much less less than _not_ going to the dentist.

It's kind of too bad that the phrase "no fucks given" was not coined until decades later.
