Goals for 2020 include making music a regular thing. Small ideas only.
one last thought: RMS was outspoken and uncompromising. but there are many ways to be those things and some of them are a lot more effective and inspiring than others. look at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. she is fighting for someone besides herself. RMS is fighting to be the most morally pure person in the room. FLOSS needs more of the former. it doesn't need any more secret handshakes (eg inscrutable jargon, complicated build systems, version control systems you need a CS degree to understand)
FLOSS's future, if it has one, is as an implementation of socialist ideology. It can help us imagine and actualize a future in which humanity survives capitalism in its current form. FLOSS belongs to the world. It belongs to women, to queer people, to the poor. We must hand it to them over the objections of the spoiled, blinkered manchildren of the 1970s, 80s, and 90s.
Freedom alone was never enough. For freedom to be worth anything you have to care about people, understand their experiences, know the limits of your own perspective. You have to understand the ways in which people are vulnerable where you are not.
Freedom that doesn't care about other people is simply Ego.

EVERY PERSON IS ENTITLED TO A DIGNIFIED LIFE. this is what human rights means.
no strings attached, no asterisks, no exclusions or exceptions. everybody belongs, everybody gets what they need. civilization is not a paradox of triage, in which some get what they need and others must suffer because of it, we do not live any longer in a zero-sum world. scarcity is more often enforced than it is natural. to ask for a world without poverty is not asking the impossible, it is merely asking that we abandon a system of structuring our society that is based on greed and little else.
Started reading The Left Hand of Darkness the other day, and now I can't stop thinking about how brilliant Ursula K. Le Guin is
When I was a kid I made a tape copy of the Nirvana CD "In Utero" by playing it on a Windows 98 computer one of my relatives had hooked up to a stereo system, but he had a G.I. Joe theme installed, and I was using the computer for other things at the same time, so the copy of the album I had was full of random samples of Cobra Commander shouting at people, and the real version of the album has never sounded quite right to me without the yelling
@caraellison I just listened to another great episode of the spelunky showlike and it was super cool hearing you and farbs talk about the game. I'm extremely stoked to give it a run now. 🤘

I'm just terrible at games with economies. The experience of NMS for me is much like my life in general: Full of stuff I'll never see or afford because I suck at being somebody who develops the means to much.
I definitely don't understand the allure of wanting a gajillion units really fast still and I'm entirely befuddled as to what I'm supposed to do with all this space money now I have it.
What I'm trying to say is, I want to buy a flying saucer but no bugger thought about putting one in the game so I guess I'll just keep this space money then.
