@phryk sorry, only reading now. you mean the main melody instrument? sounds like some sort of synth with a huge square wave portion. should be independent of your DAW.
@phryk It's a bit hard to analyse in the final mix, but from ear-memory i'd say you want to experiment with cutting half of the waveform off. sounds a bit like some broken/mis-biased class-a amplifier
