I just found this software to model your apartment in, and I'm just blown away by it. It's GPL3, and packaged on NixOS.

Mm. Trends on the right: corporations are people. Trends on the left: data is/are people.

Capitalism is quietly erasing the idea of private property. All products are effectively becoming rentals, and the companies can revoke your right to use them whenever they feel like it. It's becoming increasingly difficult to actually own anything. Media is streamed, and devices are locked from the users.

It's hilarious how all the things people were afraid of happening under communism are actually happening under capitalism.

My god, look at this absolutely lovely* Venn diagram showing the overlap (and non-overlap) of characters supported by various popular computing systems in 1972. Notably, the ¢ symbol is supported in IBM's EBCDIC but not in anything else. (ASCII here means what we now think of as 7-bit ASCII, only the first 128 ASCII codes. 256-character ASCII wouldn't be formally standardized until 1987 in ISO 8859!)

I have had some assumptions about Russia challenged today while listening to the governor Natalya Komarova of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra.

She acknowledged that it is rather strange that an ethnic Russian is actively representing minority and indigenous language support in Russia, but they're doing so much to help minority languages grow there it was nice to hear.
