That could indeed be a great way to strengthen (in the either or the other way):

- Choose a tool to inspect, e.g. "Libreoffice".
- Find the fittest (maybe commercial) competitor; e.g. "MS Office".
- Find a "power user" for both.
- Define a catalog of interesting&relevant tasks.
- Let the chosen users compete in solving that tasks in a public session.

If that works fine, you have a nice video clip to show. If not, you have a lot of good feedback about stuff to fix.

What do you think?

Me (goes to site to download an OS)

Site: (redirects me to mega.nz)

Me: 😖

Me: (Clicks on "Download" button)

Site: "Do you want to allow mega.nz to store files on this system?"

Me: (Closes browser)

Yeah, if your project sends me to "Uber for Downloads" your project is dead to me.

Do you remember times when your editor was not a network of micro-services?

@kuketzblog

Was danach passiert?

>TL;DR: Tarr is no longer maintaining a node.js package that everyone and their dog uses. No legitimate users step up to maintain said package, even though they depend on it.

Sorry, but the whole node.js ecosystem cries out loudly that is has precisely that problem if you look at it for more than 30 seconds, and you are willing to see the issues (instead of having the techies' rose-colored glasses).

Everyone using it anyways has *actively* decided to ignore that problem at some point in time.

Worst thing: Those oddly behaving and crashing apps are all applications that are explicitly prepared for running on the mobile phone.

If you run just any arbitrary application that isn't one of the explicitly prepared ones, phosh will just happily show you some part of the window, and you cannot move around within, and typically the most useful thing you can do with it is closing it again (and closing windows doesn't even make fun from a shell usability perspective).

After one week of , both is still true for me:

- It's really really an interesting thing, I love the idea, and if it dies, a big dream will die with it.

- Beyond "Flashlight" I still haven't found any thing that works. Not even the tiniest things. Everything behaves odd, isn't usable via touch, and/or constantly crashes.

Currently using . I know, nobody promised anything better. I'm not going to blame or accuse someone. But it's a long long way until that is actually usable.

I just tried on my and it seems to support some more things (e.g. camera) and it has some better behavior (e.g. lock screen). Thanks for the recommendations! Tomorrow I will see how battery behaves with enabled suspend. I'm not sure if this approach is perfect (no mail, xmpp while suspended, i suspect?!), but okay for the beginning. Seems to be on the right track... Cool if would mature soon on that platform. :)

Immer schön alles falsch machen, was man falsch machen kann!

Another thing: Whenever I'm working on my C++ projects, I'm a bit allured by the idea of something like the MSish stdafx.h, with some very common includes also from my own code. Not for saving compile time (I would not actually precompile it), but for less typing. It seems to be a smell and discouraged to do something like that... And I understand the arguments in theory, but why is philosophy more important than usability here (while C++ has many corners imho where the brutal opposite is true)?

It seems that the currently has an idle battery life of half a day or so, and it can be just an hour or two when actually playing around with it.

Maybe _this_ will become an actual problem, and kind of hard to improve as strong as needed to reach a useful state, even in the long run?! Do you have the same (or contrary) experience so far?

Well... Now my smartphone has a non working sms app, not a really usable browser, virtually no more apps, and the input lags would drive me crazy after 10 minutes. :)

But it's completely cool, completely promising, and actually in very good shape regarding that it's a beta for devs and enthusiasts! I've suspected it to be much worse. Great job so far! I'm sure the finetuning will also come...

Finally a smartphone that doesn't spy on me and that runs usual linux apps.

Immer wieder schmerzhaft zu sehen, wie zumindest einige Leute eigentlich wissen, was richtig und was falsch ist, aber nicht aus dem Quark kommen, daraus verbindliche Forderungen abzuleiten.

How can I disable all that shitload of advertising tabs after updates? I don't want them. I expect that the browser just does the updates, but it must not bug me with shit each time it did.

Why do I feel that in the end is actually the _better_ browser nowadays from a freedom and privacy perspective?

It doesn't bug me with Facebook shit after each third update. Just as one example...

Thank you also for getting a tab full of Facebook thingies after updates.

You know, I try to disable that whereever I can, and I hate that you autocomplete "f" to "facebook" on my mobile phone. Though I _never_ visited that site.

... and that creepy company with the free web manifesto has nothing better to tell me after a firefox update than "It's okay to like Facebook".

No, it isn't! And it's not your task as browser vendor to make that kind of advertizing!
