@switchingsocial @pixelfed I really like Lifehacker, they are a lot friendlier to FOSS stuff than your average news source.

@switchingsocial
Site says it offers "ethical software", promotes stuff that tracks users via google ID and sends Facebook information to its servers 🤔

@aladar @pixelfed

It is a bit strange I guess.

There's not a lot individual writers can do about their employer's site's policies 😟

@switchingsocial
Its not about the sites, the software itself is the issue. Basically eberythjt in the "mobile apps" section is either using Google tracking, or explicitly datamining people thru the app and sending data to the dev servers. One of the apps even says it will take your Facebook data for collection if you allow the permissions.

@aladar @pixelfed

Ahh, sorry, I thought you were talking about Lifehacker. You mean ethical.net?

Yeah, there are some sites/apps listed on it that I wouldn't recommend.

@switchingsocial

@pixelfed

I am happy they got the good folks. I am scared to see some terrifying people mixed in. 😫

@pixelfed
Is anyone in on pixel feed early? I'd like to play around.

@pixelfed
I read more of your posts, I'll look around for instances 😊

@pixelfed So is "ethical open source" the new word for Free software? Congrats BTW, great work on Pixelfed, it deserves some fame
