✨ Donate, Buy Prints and Shop buttons are coming soon!

We won't take any commissions, these buttons will open a browser with the donation or store url that you set.

Don't worry, we're not adding a Shopping tab or otherwise entering the e-commerce space, all transactions will happen in the browser.

We ❤️ our community, and hope this helps make your account and content more sustainable financially!

@pixelfed The fact that the "Buy Prints" button doesn't have an icon is killing me. Other than that, looking great! 👍

@Wyndix Tbh I couldn't find one I liked.

Maybe you can help? Go to icons.expo.fyi/ and click 'Filters' and select 'Ionicons' and let me know what icon you think best fits this!

@Wyndix Thanks!

I've narrowed it down to 'image' and 'layers', I think layers better fits this context as it gives 'buy multiple prints' energy, but 'image' is more accurate technically.

What do you think? You have final say because I can't decide lol

@pixelfed They both look so great! I would personally use the layers one because like the rest, it's very simplistic. And also, it gets the message across that you might buy them in bulk ;D

I really like how this app looks as a whole to be honest!

@pixelfed I just followed that account, and it currently says it has zero posts and two followers. Also, I tapped the link to @dansup and it said User not found. I’m on pxlmo.com

@pixelfed Do you plan to distribute these links along with posts to other servers? If you do, consider using FEP-0ea0: Payment Links.

The proposal contains an example of "Buy" link attached to an Image object.

@pixelfed can we add to the donate button a custom link or our crypto address?

@pixelfed probably one of the easiest ways (along with content moderation clarity) that will help jumpstart a real exodus from IG to Pixelfed.

@Mikal @pixelfed I mean I may have some very straightened views on this, given that I think I'm somewhat unusual in I've been on Instagram for years, I was a former Gallery director on deviantART, and I've suffered the idiocy of general social media content moderation stupidity, and have a slight hope that pixel fed might be a game changer if we can make onboarding for it relatively smooth.

@zeruch @pixelfed

Yeah, I'm letting this all evolve a little more before taking the time to set up an account and do anything with it. Once I do that, if I like it, I'll post my photos there and try to drag people over from Instagram. Like Mastodon with Twitter, I think it will take a minor catastrophe or some new heinous fuckery by Zuck to push people off the IG plateau and break through calcified network effects holding them there. At that point it will be nice to have somewhere for them to go.

@pixelfed I'm wondering how this works on a technical level. Does it use profile metadata? Does it use FEP-0ea0 (reading the spec, it seems like it should)?

Good start. Have always wondered why creators of Fedi software don’t implement this ‘Tip’ feature. Use some payment gateway and make it as simple as post.news. Will encourage content creators too to join the Fediverse. Crypto is too complicated for the normal user - of course, can be made optional.

@Deus I'm developing Fediverse server Mitra where users can publish content for paid subscribers. It only supports cryptocurrency payments though (in Monero).

@pixelfed, btw, I tried to login into pixelfed with my “mastodon . social” account and I wasn’t able, is that expected?

@anders🙄😢one more account :( i thought that was the point in the fediverse to have it once for every instance, @pixelfed

@neekeeteen
On the server to server side, yes. But the client side isn't always compatible across implementations - quite rarely actually. So what you can do is that you can comment Pixelfed posts from your Mastodon account but you can't log in to your Mastodon account using the Pixelfed app.

Some apps work as I said across implementations. I can for example use Fedilab which is a Mastodon app even though I'm using Friendica because the Friendica developers made it compatible with the Mastodon client API.

@neekeeteen
You're welcome. Feel free to tag/ask me if you have any questions.
@pixelfed

@pixelfed this is cool, but i wish pixelfed instances weren't down half the time i try to visit them. i think that's more important to address

@pixelfed I'll be honest, this is one of the things that would make sense if it could fund development. I wouldn't be offended if Pixelfed type sites included services around photography from prints to stock photos, and in fact made the code they incorporated for it open source as well permitting independent instances to also attempt to find ways to pay for their hosting/dev costs...

@pixelfed
That's what we need for PeerTube. Maybe then some content creators will switch. Best with @Liberapay or @opencollective instead of PayPal or similar.
