How come I never hear anyone talk about Mushishi?
It's reeeeeeaaaalllly good, one of my favorite anime. It's on Netflix for Pete's sake, why hasn't it found a larger audience???
Ya I guess I didn't know about it until recently, so it's new to me. I love that it's on Netflix because I can recommend it to my friends who like anime, but aren't invested enough to deal with Crunchyroll
Mushishi takes place in a fictionalized post-Edo period. It's about a man who travels around dealing with Mushi, which are a neat blurring between spirits and biological organisms.
The storytelling is really slow paced, but in a calm relaxing way, it doesn't drag on.
My wife (with a Ph.D in microbiology) loves that a lot of Mushi are very similar to how humans interacted with microbes before we knew about microbes.
The dub is on Netflix and the sub is on Crunchyroll, go watch it!
@plibbity years ago I was discussing Japanese comics with a colleague and how I wasn't into them at all by personal taste, and he passed me a bunch of files with a few issues of Mushishi to try reading... I had completely forgotten about this until now, it was indeed the most enjoyable experience I ever had with mangas :)
@plibbity It's absolutely lovely isn't it? I've recommended it to a bunch of people over the years.
@plibbity 'cause it's a bit old now?
I loved the first season at the time but didn't take the time for the second one. But if it's on Netflix... :D
