Thinking about trying out Reaper as a DAW. Anyone here used it before and have thoughts?
My main usage would probably chopping samples and some simple mixing. I just want a cheap program with easy manipulation, I don't need any virtual instruments.
@shoutcacophony
Cool, thanks.
I watched a youtube video on it's sampler feature and the chopping looks pretty easy
@plibbity That’s probably easier to do in REAPER than in any other daw,
@GratWhoLivesInMirrors
I've seen videos of people usong the Maschine software to chop samples and it's like next level easy. But it's also like $500 so I'm sure Reaper is good enough lmao
@plibbity @GratWhoLivesInMirrors Most Maschine stuff is accessible from my limited time with it, but Native Instruments sure loves to price gouge
@plibbity yeah, I don’t like using software that I have to pay for, I’ve also have never checked out any other DAWs aside from ableton because I’ve been using REAPER for almost a decade and it seems too late to switch over to something else.
@GratWhoLivesInMirrors are you using the latest version of Reaper? Maybe you can give me some pointers
@plibbity I haven’t updated since I got my computer in 2014 but I’m sure it can’t be that much different
@plibbity Have you tried Ardour? It's free and open source. Not sure how stable it is on windows though.
@naught101 I'll look into, thanks for the suggestion!
@plibbity I have. It's very much a linear multitrack DAW, and somewhat fiddly (but only slightly moreso than most DAWs).
I'm not sure how good it is for chopping samples, but it's been a while since I've used it. For simple, cheap mixing, I think it'd be pretty good, and on par with Logic, PT, etc.
