The best advice I’ve gotten on character design was to start with silhouettes and use a brush bigger than you feel comfortable with. It helps keep you loose, doesn’t allow you to obsess over small details, and ensures your silhouettes read at distance.

My process boils down to:

1. A sheet of silhouettes.
2. A value painting of the best one.
3. A color layer over the value.

I've seen a couple people side-eye Mastodon for the comparatively longer character count (vs Twitter) and I even grumbled a bit myself about Twitter moving to 280, but, like... In both cases, it's still a nice straightforward organized feed. It's not like it's Facebook or some shit.

I was going to play some video games but I'm going to catch up on art instead.

Please give me positive reinforcement for this behavior.
