OK I think this will be the most uncanftable train trip ever. A family (3) sitting at the same table as me. Same way. Wearing rain jackets, the men has still tight up is tie, no smile, the child is not allowed to talk, parents sitting folded hands and stare out of the window.
This three hours will be painful.

* To automatically filter copyrighted materials, even badly, you need a way to reference those materials. Even our largest instances probably can't afford access!
* Our instances will not be able to afford licenses to link to news sites under the new #LinkTax rules.

@angristan This is the issue with basically every decentralised platform, it's never normie friendly-enough to justify the effort it takes to move.
Everyone is talking about Peertube like it's the solution and it'll take over Youtube, but they forgot that Youtube users are not nerds that know P2P, webrtc, federation, VPNs....

The EU is about to update #Article13 to force sites to use YouTube-style content filters on all uploads.

we should all take a step back and realize what is going on: we're writing history together. #mastodon (and #pleroma if you want :) is the first openly developed social network that grows beyond a niche. as @ckeen put it well, it brings along issues that just never came up before. now we need to find a way together to overcome these issues. there are no precedents. it's altogether new. hold your head high up. experiment. don't take it too seriously. forgive.
