Sometimes my recollections are some Berenstein level stuff.

There was a company, a year or so before Google Earth came out. I think they were Canadian. Their big deal was satellite imagery - directly accessible on the net, and recent. Not waiting a couple years, no... the website claimed they had their own imaging satellites.

Google bought them. I kept waiting from the quality and recency of data they'd produced to surface in Google Earth. It never did.

Years later, I recall something about Google satellite launches. No details on whether they were imaging or communications; I was soured on Google by then. But again, no externally visible product.

@feonixrift heck, remember when satellite imagery wasn't censored at the request of intelligence agencies?

@puellavulnerata no? I missed that timeline. I remember some data slips, but never not blocked regions.
