Today in the adventures of 'no one but me reads my documentation', there are random lines of bad church latin invoking the protection of the machine spirit in our disaster recovery plan.
Example:

"Omnissiah defensionem calculandum apparatus. Chao superare potest. Custodiat te nostrae tergum consilium."

Circuits preserve us.

50 words for snow?

Mathematicians who do analysis have 50 words for almost.

(And here I thought Probably Appriximately Correct and Littlewood's defs of Nearly and Almost were bad... I had no idea.)

Using the modern web doesn't feel empowering. It feels immensely frustrating.

The web is barely usable without ad-blocking. Pages take an age to load and the content jumps around as more ads download and display. Also the ads are spying on you.

The entire JS ecosystem is dependency hell and sometimes you have to download massive JS files just to view a web page. The JS is probably also spying on you.

Worse still, JS is also probably why the Back button doesn't work properly on so many sites.

RT @alexandraerin@twitter.com: LRT: It's important to understand that people calling the Proud Boys "brownshirts" aren't being hyperbolic but making an actual historical parallel. The Proud Boys commit violence, the right blames the left for this, thus "necessitating" the readiness for future violence.

Most modern search engines will not even /consider/ the possibility that I want what I asked for. Surely I misspoke. Surely those characters can't belong that that order, those words in the grammar, those ideas in that query. Wouldn't I like a nice cup of tea?

I'm going to keep reiterating this because the "power to the people" / "collective domination is good" tendency of the Left keeps creeping back:

Democracy is evil. Our goal is to kill power, not collectivize it.

The hardest part of using PGP, key management, doesn't scale well in large organizations. We solved this problem at First Look Media (where there are over 200 PGP users) with GPG Sync. We maintain a keylist, and everyone subscribes to it, so everyone has the latest public key for everyone else.

I'm excited to announce that we've submitted a draft RFC that will turn GPG Sync into an internet standard!

I just published an article that describes in technical detail how Russia executed their attacks on the US election, how they got caught, and what capabilities the US appears to have.

I should figure out something about those memory leaks because this place is probably less destructive to my mental health than the hellsite

Interesting that the puri.sm site blocks tor. I don't know why they would do that.

@resist_berlin "WE have tools available that were considered ridiculously radical only a generation ago. Why are we using them so sheepishly?"

Damn is that ever a rallying cry.

Fight for the users, and all that.

Silly but actually serious question: if you needed to mic a sleeping cat, how would you do it? Could you do it on a sub-$200 budget? Sub-$100? Sub-$50?

I know very little about sound design but am eager to learn.

To all of you who have called, and those who wrote an e-mail, and those that support in all different ways, from very vocal to very silent -- thank you.

You guys are amazing. You are taking part in a political and historical process.

This is an old one, but a golden one. And it applies to 2010, 2012, and now just as well.
