This Wired overview of historic dictatorships and modern day Trumpism and Putinism is impressively well written.
I learned a number of things I did not know, and I highly recommend it:
It is terribly ironic that the USA has these extremely knowledgeable people about autoritarianism and fascism, like Ruth Ben-Ghiat, Jason Stanley, Robert Paxton, and Timothy Snyder. Experts known the world over. And yet it is the USA that is now sliding into fascism post-haste.
@gvenema people live in silos. I am quite sure, Timothy Snyder has never been on Fox News or at a MAGA rally.
It is a pity that these experts probably didn't even get any serious attention from the "Democratic" party. That party sleepwalked right into the 2024 elections and apparently still believes there will be next elections that are free and meaningful.
