I've been accepted as a speaker at @LAS to talk about GNOME Circle. I was excited to travel to Albania and have my talk there but the Linux App Summit hasn't been answering any of my emails! Since I'm from Iran, I really need an Invitation Letter to be able to get my visa (e-visa) since Albania does not give visas to Iranians so easily, and it needs lots of paperwork (and also no embassy in Iran). I emailed LAS on 11th March...
@LAS I emailed LAS on 11th March and I heard nothing in return. I again emailed them and told them the emergency on 17th March (10 days ago), and again nothing till now. I also contacted the embassies nearby (turkey, Ankara) about e-visa process and still nothing, I really needed help from LAS team and their connections and knowledge about this process but I heard nothing and based on the short amount of time left I believe I won't be able to get my visa and attend the Linux App Summit.
@LAS UPDATE: After this post, the Gnome Foundation's program manager, Kristi, contacted me and we discussed my situation regarding participating in the Linux App Summit in person. We've decided that it's best to have my presentation online and remote. Thank you to Kristi and everyone who offered help and followed up.
@revisto @LAS I’ll say what a lot of people think these days and it’s not gonna make me any friends: The GNOME foundation is broken beyond repair.
People who actually care have been trying to fix the structures for years now and end up burning out left and right. The last serious attempt to make things work was shut down by a power tripping CoC committee. These days people actively avoid having to deal with the foundation.
Maybe it’s time to move on and build something new…
@lw64 @revisto @LAS I mean we could start small, there already have been plans to start a new entity for funding development work a while ago, but those are kinda back in the drawer these days.
Imo it’d be a big benefit in itself to have a structure that’s somewhere outside the US, so that we wouldn’t have to care about software patents and all that insane stuff..
@cassidy @LAS Hi Cassidy, thank you so much for your help. Thankfully, they contacted me after this post and mentioned they were busy with the conference and we figured out it's best that I have my talk remotely and online. I hope I can have a talk at GUADEC in person. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.
@revisto I look forward to your LAS talk and hope to see you in person at GUADEC!
@cassidy Thank you so much, hope to see you too!
