Ricardo J. Méndez @ricardojmendez

John Perry Barlow has died. He was a founding member of both the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Freedom of the Press Foundation, and wrote the "Declaration of Cyberspace Independence", which begins...

> "Governments of the Industrial World, you weary giants of flesh and steel, I come from Cyberspace, the new home of Mind. On behalf of the future, I ask you of the past to leave us alone."

He was a visionary and it is our loss.

@ricardojmendez The truth is the cyberspace we know is heavily dependant on national governments and hardly anyone is trying to change that.

@pskosinski @ricardojmendez community broadband is actually on the rise, but I see your point when it comes to submarine cables (there's hardly a way to lay those as private citizens)

@ricardojmendez thank you so much for sharing this, I was going literally crazy because I couldn't recall where I'd read the words "You are terrified of your own children, since they are natives in a world where you will always be immigrants" and I desperately wanted to find them again :D
