Realized I hadn't done an intro toot. Hi. My name's Rich. I work for the Uni. of B.C. in beautiful Vancouver.

I work in a small team who run several large installs (some of the biggest in the world we're told) and help teachers teach using tech. Love my job and seeing how what we do helps students learn more easily.

Big fan of watching and playing most sports.

Sarcastic. Dry. Takes no bullshit. Teller of terrible jokes. Makes a mean old fashioned.

Hi :)

Right, so, the home feed is for those I follow. That makes sense. Now I just need some good folks to follow. Recommendations of people to follow for Vancouver, Canada things? And higher ed? And WordPress?

Is it possible to have a timeline of just the people I follow on the web app? Right now my options for timelines seem to be local or federated.

@Support Hey folks, is there a known issue whereby both the federated and local timeline is running behind? Right now I have a delay of from somewhere between 45mins - 2hrs between someone tooting and it being visible to me. Yet when I toot, others seem to see it immediately.

It's great to see a service like Mastodon has grown so quickly, but right now the delay of 1-2hr between publishing something and it being in the timeline makes it almost entirely pointless. Especially with a real-time alternative available. It's like watching sports on a 60 minute delay when your neighbour is loudly playing it live.

I just noticed. When one says something on Mastodon, they 'TOOT!'.

a) come on, that's too close to tweet.
b) all caps is shouting, let's chill out a bit
c) To 'toot' in the UK is to fart. Or trump. Or drop one. Or pump. Or guff. (you get the idea). All negative connotations.

Is this thing on?

Hello?

No?

Oh. Hello.
