@mhoye had an awesomely surreal experience driving out to the cypress tree tunnel at Point Reyes in 2018. the long road ends at an old decommissioned radio station. out front was a pay phone, with the actual phone bit removed. but there was still a phone book there, ancient and weathered, and it had my name in it - a long-abandoned landline # from 2008 i never used.

Fucking watch this fight for real. Absolutely 10/10 martial arts movie and also a couple incredible romances. What a wonderful flick. A masterpiece
So #MsMarvel is... better than the comics even?! So adorable and so nicely done. Bravo.
US Environmental Politics, a hopeful note
I'll try to summarize the pitch:
- Politicians ignore the environment because likely voters rank it so very low among their concerns
- People who care about the environment above all are shockingly unreliable voters
- It is much easier to train people to vote than to persuade people to care about the environment
- You can tell if it's working because voter participation info is public
- It works like crazy
- Change the electorate, change the pols
US Environmental Politics, a hopeful note
I just got out of a presentation by Nathaniel Stinnett, the head of https://www.environmentalvoter.org/, and I had this strange feeling of hope. I'm donating. Maybe you should too, time or money, they need both.
This article sums them up well: https://newrepublic.com/article/166589/environmental-voter-project-midterms
Walking out of ice cream shop last night, guy says "Hey, you don't need that mask, you afraid of the fake plague?"
Hypothesis: he's an idiot.
Test: Me, not breaking stride, "Nah, I'm just ugly. You should try it."
Ten seconds later, guy says: "Hey!"
Hypothesis confirmed. #science
How did I not know about this? Fun capsule summaries of, like, everything #StarTrek, including general "worth watching" / "okay to skip" call outs.
Recommendations wanted: cross platform relational database app.
I used HandBase for over a decade, starting with my palm pilot! It was a lightweight & powerful, intuitive app that made it easy to create relational databases that could either sync w/Access or its own desktop version.
It hasn't updated in years. Likely abandoned.
Anyone know of a similar product that will sync b/w android & windows?
I loathe software-as-a-service & would rather just pay for a program.
(Boosts welcome!)
I'm pretty confident the architect of Davies Symphony Hall was a #DoctorWho fan. Or loved #Lego a lot.
