I’m still not sure exactly what problem self-driving cars are supposed to solve so it’s impossible to gauge whether they’re successful or not and they have already killed a person but Elon Musk is the new Jesus so let’s just go with it.

@rotatingskull The hope is when the majority of traffic is completely autonomous, that the amount of accidents will decrease drastically. They will also increase overall productivity and potentially even have a marginally positive effect on the environment, as they can avoid traffic jams altogether by having a communications network that relaxes dense points of traffic.

@rotatingskull There are lots of unanswered questions: What is going to happen to all the data this will amount to? What overall effects on the environment will it have to manufacture cars like these on mass? The list goes on.
It is very important to be critical. And overall it seems that self-driving cars will mostly serve the capitalist system than the people using it.
But saying that they would do no good is simply wrong. Every year thousands of people die in traffic accidents.

@hay The hope.

I guess we just have to accept a few cracked skulls in the mean time.

Also traffic jams are more of a function of inefficiency designed roads and geometry, not inefficient driving, but whatever if we just hope everything will turn out fine.
