Curious about opinions re what's / what're the _least bad_ TLDs...
@mio Oh yeah, that's not clear. I meant as in where my domain money is doing the least harm.
Like I wouldn't buy an .io, and am not keen on how .art came about...
but there are those companies like Donuts who I don't know shit about...
Just hoping to find some good research.
@ryliejamesthomas In that case, I don't know. Maybe a cctld from countries with a decent press freedom rating. http://cole007.net/ethical/ has lookup for some cctlds, no results for gtlds. As a starting point, Wikipedia entries for tlds usually have links to the registries, and a small controversy section if applicable.
@ryliejamesthomas Didn't realise there was an #askmastodon tag! Probably more suitable for my question. To summerise:
Looking for investigations / research / info / opinions on TLDs. Want to get a better idea of where to put my money if I want to feel less bad about it.
Maybe clearer if you read the thread?
I don't know how accurate this is, but .net seems to generally be avoided by large corporations, and never comes off as tacky like some of the popular cctlds. It's got a long history, so people recognize it as a domain name. I like it. The majority of domains I own are .net.
@rdh Yeah, I use .net for my main domain.
Kinda agonised on it for a little bit because it was meant for 'networks' and 'portals' iirc, but it feels like a good default one anyway. And a homepage is kinda like a portal.
@ryliejamesthomas .coop is actually owned by a co-op, and was co-setup by a few :)
@ryliejamesthomas What do you mean by "least bad"?
