Hey #Fediverse #Tech #InfoSec somebody mentioned here Maciej Cegłowski and the term he coined for people and companies hiding behind the complexity of artificial intelligence and machine algorithms.
Hiding as in pretending it's not the people's/company's fault that an AI algo did something bad/stupid, it's the AI's fault. Shifting the blame.
It was a neat phrase, two words, can't remember it for the life of me.
Halp?
@scearley might be. Pretty good talks.
@ktsukik nah, the term was different, two words.
@ktsukik "morality laundering".
@rysiek morality laundering, I think.
@alcinnz YESSSS!
Thank you. Much appreciated.
@rysiek one famous quote from him related to this is 'Machine learning is like money laundering for bias' (e.g. used in this talk http://idlewords.com/talks/sase_panel.htm) but it's more than 2 words...
@charlyblack 10/10, that's what I'm looking for. Also "morality laundering".
Thanks.
@pfm @charlyblack I try to avoid such... strong comparisons, but the basic idea is correct.
There was a great talk at CCC, not on the main schedule though (so no recording sadly) about ethics in pure math.
That was exactly the point. "I was following orders" and "this is a theoretical problem, it is not my fault if somebody deploys my solution" are not good enough.
@rysiek cowardly assholes?
@starbreaker
@rysiek
AI laundering (a specific type of policy laundering) .
@starbreaker @gcupc this thread is now officially gold.
Thank you all.

@rysiek isn't that the bedbug registry guy?
