I'm VP of Design at Cloud Four, a consultancy that helps folks design and build progressive web apps and responsive design systems. I sometimes design casual games in my spare time.

I'm also a life-long cartoonist, and I'm currently challenging myself to share one new drawing per day of 2018.

We have one more week to get $5K matched! Procrastinators, now's your time to double your support to Conservancy! sfconservancy.org/supporter/

I saw a coyote on my way to work this morning, bouncing in the snow by roadside, close to the passing cars. Ran back into the woods when I slowed down.

That makes today a Good Day.

(I must have seen the same one back in November?)

Is your institution a W3C member? Do you like decentralised social networks? You probably do since you're reading this on Mastodon. Ask your AC rep to vote on ActivityPub today! (or, before the 16th of Jan). If your instance is up to date, you're probably using this standard right now. It would be a shame if it didn't become an official W3C Recommendation.

Sorry about the toot-storm, folks!

I found those passages from "Death of the Liberal Class" extremely interesting and thought that some of you might be able to offer your perspectives.

I have been writing some code that uses OpenSSL APIs, without really knowing just what is it that I am doing. I am terrified.

txt.fyi: just type and hit publish txt.fyi

For example, here's a Hello World:
txt.fyi/+/b800ae08/

That's it. No boosts, no follows, no nothing. Even the custom emojos you just thought of - ***throw away***.

Well, except for micro Markdown, but that's it.

I would like something like Goodreads dot com that implements ActivityPub.

Could that be a thing?

Get the difference between Meltdown and Spectre:

Meltdown: Intel only, easily exploitable, patch causes up to 30% decrease in performance

Spectre: EVERY processor since a few decades (including AMD, ARM, etc), not easily exploitable but NOT fixable

I've had a good think about the current situation and as an IT professional, my advice at this point is to remain calm, gather all your electronic devices together, set them on fire, and retreat to the nearest cave. Each nightfall, gather the youngest children and tell them horror stories about technology, and encourage them to beat with sticks anyone who they suspect of meddling with such dark forces.
