Is there a Mastodon hot take out there I haven't seen yet

@sarahjeong it's bad and everyone should stop using the internet

@sarahjeong Is there a Mastodon hot take worse than "William Shattner couldn't find me"

@Gargron @sarahjeong he couldn't find you because he was busy climbing a mountain. No idea why. He probably loves the mountain, I guess.

@Gargron @sarahjeong William Shatner has yet to follow me either, so I'm pretty sure the fediverse is dead

@Gargron not yet and it's going to be a banner day when that one gets one-upped

@sarahjeong I "coined" this one: Mastodon instances are like Bitcoin exchanges.

It feels weird to be on the Mastodon beat now because is it really a "beat" or a "thing"? 🤔 I do think there are a lot of interesting lessons about communities and centralization/decentralization though

But seriously I'm seeing people subtweeting a bad take and I'm like

mastodon.social/media/wEOK-ynw

@catte @sarahjeong DMs were NEVER private, given that the aviary never implemented E2E DMs either.

Subtooting sorry

I'm all out of practice

@sarahjeong I'm imagining that scene with them walking into a room filled with shelves upon shelves of pineapples now.

@sarahjeong It's been a thing for quite a while, I guess it's just the slick UX this time around that's drawing more people in.

I really need to put a timeline of this together, starting with laconi.ca and statusnet, the precursor software that eventually led to the protocols that drive Mastodon (and the fediverse at large).

@sarahjeong Mastodon is the new LifeJournal.

...or was that one taken?

@sarahjeong have you followed the lolicon / pawoo.net ban / caching illegal content debate?

@sarahjeong Has there been a hot take about Masto and furries yet?

@sarahjeong Lots of promise. It has the right combination of techno-utopianism and hackability.
